Russian TV Hosts Can’t Find Path to Defeat Ukraine

(MOSCOW) – Russian state media figures openly admitted the Kremlin’s military strategy in Ukraine has reached an impasse and called for a dramatic escalation of strikes during a televised discussion, exposing growing frustration within Moscow’s propaganda apparatus.

During a broadcast of the programme “60 Minutes” on Saturday, host Olga Skabeeva and State Duma member Oleg Morozov struggled to articulate a coherent path to victory, acknowledging that the war of attrition against Ukraine is a “dead-end propaganda strategy.”

Morozov criticised the narrative comparing damage inflicted by both sides, stating the logic amounts to a “zero-sum game.” He conceded that while Russian air defences claim to intercept 98 percent of incoming drones, the sheer volume of launches means the small percentage that get through still cause significant disruption, including problems at petrol stations.

The State Duma member then proposed a radical intensification of hostilities, urging the Russian military to “flip” the Western formula linking Ukrainian escalation to peace talks. “Escalation on our part is the condition for potential peace,” Morozov said, advocating for strikes that multiply Ukraine’s actions many times over.

He pressed for attacks on symbolic targets to deliver psychological blows, suggesting the Ukrainian General Staff building, railway bridges, and tunnels used to transport military equipment from Poland. When Skabeeva pointed out that bridges remain intact after five years of war, Morozov replied he had heard “various explanations” but offered no clarity. Skabeeva interjected, questioning why senior military commanders had not already considered such targets.

The rare on-air admission that Russian strategy is floundering comes as the Kremlin publicly shifted its terminology from “special military operation” to “war.” Morozov referenced recent comments by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirming the linguistic pivot, framing it as an acknowledgement that the original objective of responding to threats has been superseded by the task of defeating the adversary entirely.

The panellists voiced alarm over a recent NATO summit they described as a “summit of consolidation” against Russia, noting the alliance’s commitment to sustained military support for Kyiv and mocking US President Donald Trump’s claim he left the gathering in an improved mood after chiding Spain and praising Lithuania’s defence spending.
