(MOSCOW, RUSSIA) – Russian state television pundits have dismissed US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as unserious figures, claiming their involvement in Ukraine negotiations is secondary to their business interests. The remarks came during a broadcast of the programme “One’s Own Truth” hosted by Roman Babayan.
Panelist Nikolai Starikov, founder of the Great Fatherland Party, noted the Kushner family recently acquired the Los Angeles Lakers alongside Bob Iger for 12.5 billion dollars (£9.8 billion). He questioned whether Kushner was genuinely focused on global conflict resolution or simply conducting business deals between negotiations.
“He is dealing with Ukraine right now, just between acquiring the Los Angeles Lakers for 12.5 billion dollars and some resort in Albania,” Starikov said. “He decided to stop by Ukraine on the way. This is not serious.”
Starikov added that the panel should not take “these two clowns” seriously because they are not people concerned with politics. He asserted that Russia’s best negotiator is its soldier, who is always invisibly present at the negotiating table.
Journalist Michael Bohm offered a contrasting view. He said the sole purpose of the Kushner and Witkoff visit was to attempt to explain why Russia cannot be forced into peace.
The broadcast concluded with Starikov urging continued military action. “We need to simply continue doing what we are doing, every day continue to deliver these strikes,” he said. “Our guys are exactly doing that.”
