(EASTERN FRONT, UKRAINE) – Ukrainian drone strikes have triggered two catastrophic ammunition detonations behind Russian lines, destroying a Grad multiple launch rocket system and a supply vehicle in separate incidents.
Video footage released on 8 August 2026 shows a 122mm Grad rocket cooking off in the back of a UAZ-452 ammunition supply truck. The blast propelled the vehicle into a tree. Limited context was provided for this footage and no location was given. The truck appeared to be conducting a resupply operation for a Grad system when it was struck by a drone, causing a delayed detonation of the rocket.
A second, significantly larger explosion was recorded when a drone hit a BM-21 Grad positioned in a forest near the front line. The resulting blast completely obliterated the launcher. Aftermath footage showed only a charge wheel and a fragment of metal remaining. The BM-21 Grad was located in Toska, in the Donetsk region, approximately two kilometres from the front line, an unusually close position for a system typically deployed 15 kilometres back.
Military analysts suggested Russian forces may have gambled on a reduced Ukrainian drone presence or attempted a rapid shoot-and-scoot operation. A BM-21 Grad is generally considered inaccurate and is more suited to saturating wide areas than precision strikes. The footage was released by the Suchomimus channel, which tracks military losses, and the geolocation was confirmed.
