Russian State TV Attacks German Journalism Standards

(MOSCOW) – Russian state television has demanded international journalism organisations condemn a German journalist for remarks about the destruction of Russians, accusing European human rights bodies of ignoring what it called the revival of “brown Nazism” across the continent.

The demand was made during a broadcast of the Russian state TV programme “60 Minutes,” hosted by Olga Skabeeva, with military expert Igor Korotchenko and other panellists on 15th August 2026.

Korotchenko called on international humanitarian organisations and journalist federations to condemn what he described as “cannibalistic statements” made by a German journalist whom he labelled a descendant of a Nazi.

“This is not just genocide, it is a crime. This person should be kicked out of that newspaper,” Korotchenko said.

He demanded that the United Nations Secretary General respond to the remarks, claiming the UN leader had adopted a “strange position” on the matter.

“Where is the International Confederation of Journalists’ Unions? Where is European human rights advocacy? It has stuck its tongue in one place and simply does not notice the revival of brown Nazism in a number of European states,” Korotchenko said.

The panel also claimed Europe was preparing for war, citing reports from Germany about the creation of a mass army. Korotchenko described this as the revival of the Wehrmacht “in the form in which it was ready for war with Russia.”

“The current generation of young Germans, students, do not want to be cannon fodder for this ungrateful Germany, which has given them nothing,” Korotchenko said.

He called for Russian trade unions and professional contacts to work with what he termed “healthy forces” in Europe, invoking anti Nazi and anti militarist movements from the 1960s and 1970s.

The broadcast was monitored by Russian Media Monitor, a project run by journalist Julia Davis that tracks Russian state media content.
