(UNDISCLOSED LOCATION, RUSSIA) – A Russian anti-drone training drill has ended in farce after a soldier lost control of a heavy helicopter gun, video footage has revealed.
The clip depicts a mobile fire control team testing a Yak-B 12.7mm rotary cannon, a weapon designed for the Mi-24 attack helicopter. Russian forces rigged the powerful gun onto the back of a truck as a makeshift air defence system.
During the test firing, the weapon’s immense recoil overwhelms the operator. The soldier is spun violently and flung from the vehicle, while the unmanned gun continues to spray rounds uncontrollably, nearly striking an instructor. The instructor is seen ducking to avoid being hit.
The video was published by the open-source intelligence channel Suchomimus on 12 July 2026. The narrator states the footage shows a fire control team practising with the gun, which can fire 4,000 rounds a minute, before discovering the full force of its recoil.
The exact date and region of the incident remain unconfirmed, though it is presumed to have taken place within Russia.
