(MOSCOW) – On the Russian state television programme Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov, host Vladimir Solovyov and war correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny delivered a series of grim assessments of the conflict. Solovyov, speaking after time spent in Shebekino, said air raid alerts had been declared five times in 25 minutes. This happens every day inside Russia, yet much of the country continues to live as if the events belong to another world.
He argued that strikes on Ukrainian cities must continue without pause. Mykolaiv, Kharkiv and Sumy should be wiped from the face of the earth. He stated that air defence concepts dating from the Great Patriotic War no longer work and that the present conflict is preparation for a coming wider war. Humanism, he said, must be shown only towards one’s own people. The situation is extremely serious. Russia must win because no one will settle for a draw.
Deep strikes into Russia are being carried out with British weapons, yet Russia is not destroying British factories. This, the pair said, is classic Anglo Saxon warfare. An asymmetric response is required. Those calling for a pause or negotiations were urged to listen to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who has said that stopping on the current line of contact would erase the feat of grandfathers and great grandfathers who defeated Nazism. The matter concerns not only present comfort but responsibility for the thousand year history of the Russian state. Action should follow the methods used against Nazis, systematically destroying the military infrastructure of the Ukrainian regime and its sponsors wherever they may be.
Turning to internal conditions, Poddubny said many current problems would have been avoided if greater principle and speed had been shown earlier. The country cannot continue clinging to the way of life that existed before 2014. Russia faces decades of struggle because the collective West has set the strategic defeat and destruction of Russia as its goal. Criteria of efficiency from earlier years no longer apply.
Many ministries and officials still live with the sense that it is 2013. They do not understand how long it takes to queue for petrol. This mindset, the speakers claimed, is directly linked to daily losses. On the M4 highway near Belgorod, petrol stations remain unprotected and orange fuel tankers stand out as obvious targets. One station owner told Poddubny that the state would provide money if needed and that the law does not require protective measures. Part of the country continues to wait for a wizard to solve security problems and assumes the state will pay if anything goes wrong.
Kyiv and European countries issue pseudo peaceful initiatives only when they need a breathing space. The speakers noted fire safety problems at defence industrial plants in Italy and Bulgaria and expressed the view that more such incidents would be welcome. There is no longer a rear. Even the Far East must now be regarded as territory that could eventually come under attack. Until a system of responsibility and accountability for results is built, unexplained problems will continue to appear.
Solovyov questioned how football competitions involving foreign contract players can take place during wartime when the same money could buy anti aircraft missiles. The discussion was recorded on the Russian Media Monitor channel, which tracks Russian state TV disinformation.
