Ukrainian Su-27 Strikes Russian Command Post Near Konstiantynivka

(KONSTIANTYNIVKA, DONETSK OBLAST) – A Ukrainian Su-27 fighter jet has carried out a precision strike on a building used by Russian forces as a command and observation post near Konstiantynivka, destroying the position before it could support further assault operations.

The strike, reported by TVP World’s Military Mind programme on 17th August 2026, was conducted in coordination with aerial reconnaissance units. Ukrainian forces identified the Russian position and struck it with what the report described as lightning speed and high precision. The Russian attempt to gain a foothold on another line of defence ended in complete failure.

The engagement took place as Russian forces launched overnight attacks on Ukraine with 128 strike drones, hitting 14 locations across the country. In the Odesa region, Russian forces targeted port infrastructure, damaging a civilian vessel sailing under the flag of Togo and wounding four people.

Russia’s defence ministry claimed the strikes on the port of Odesa hit a Tarantul class patrol boat and fuel storage tanks. Moscow also claimed it targeted a terminal in the port of Izmail allegedly used to unload military cargo and store unmanned surface vessels.

In the Mykolaiv region, five people were wounded in Russian attacks that damaged private homes, vehicles and civilian infrastructure. Kherson came under heavy fire for another consecutive night, with one man wounded in a strike on a residential area.

Over the past week, Russian forces carried out 13 strikes targeting facilities belonging to Naftogaz, Ukraine’s largest national oil and gas company. The company confirmed serious damage to production facilities and equipment, with operations suspended at some sites. The disruption poses additional risk as Ukraine approaches the winter heating season.

Russian forces have continued offensive operations across several sectors. In the eastern part of the Sumy region, Russian troops are using small infantry groups of one to three soldiers to infiltrate between Ukrainian positions. Vegetation has grown to more than two metres in some locations, providing cover for Russian assault groups and making them difficult to detect.

The report also detailed a Russian drone ambush tactic. Modified FPV drones, known as “Zhduн” drones, are equipped with sensitive microphones and basic audio processing modules. The drones remain camouflaged on the ground in deep sleep mode until acoustic sensors detect approaching vehicles, at which point they activate and strike from point blank range.

In a separate engagement, Ukrainian operators of a heavy bomber drone known as Baba Yaga destroyed a Russian T-72 main battle tank during a night time raid. The report noted the Ukrainian drone cost approximately 20,000 US dollars, while a refurbished or modernised T-72 costs at least one million US dollars.

The programme also highlighted the actions of a commander in Ukraine’s 475th Separate Assault Regiment who drove a burning pickup truck through enemy fire to evacuate wounded soldiers after a ground based robotic platform was attacked by a Russian drone. The commander acted so quickly he did not have time to put on body armour.

The footage was released by TVP World as part of its Military Mind series.
