Dozor Unit Details Urban Clearance Tactics in Yarova

(YAROVA, DONETSK OBLAST) – Ukrainian border guards from the special purpose unit “Dozor” have described the room by room clearance of the village of Yarova in Donetsk Oblast, as part of Operation “Vivaldi” within the area of responsibility of the 3rd Army Corps.

The commander of a Dozor unit, who goes by the call sign “Azik”, said his troops received intelligence from a senior commander indicating that Russian forces were attempting to infiltrate the settlement. Their mission was to locate and destroy the enemy.

Yarova is a large settlement with a high concentration of intact buildings, making the search and clearance of premises difficult and time consuming.

“When our groups made contact with the enemy or detected them inside a building, rather than entering into close quarters battle, the group took control of the perimeter. We called in support, namely unmanned aerial vehicles and assets from the senior commander, and delivered fire strikes on the building. Only after that did the group move inside,” Azik said.

He stressed that trust is one of the most important factors in carrying out special combat missions, whether trust in the senior commander, in one’s own commander, or between individual soldiers.

Before the operation began, the group received intelligence on the situation and the terrain. Based on that data, the service members conducted planning in line with TLP standards.

Despite limited time, the commander discussed the details of the mission with his soldiers, listening to their remarks, suggestions and concerns. According to Azik, this approach helps identify issues during planning that a commander might otherwise overlook.

“The mission is carried out directly by the service member in the field. It is his step that defines the line of battle. These are people who do not hesitate to go into battle, who risk their lives and fight for Ukraine. And that is my main motivation, to do everything so that they succeed,” the officer said.

Azik added that he often tells his soldiers that a day has not been wasted if they have eliminated a couple of occupiers, describing it as a powerful motivation to get up, work and carry out combat and special missions in the name of Ukraine.
