Exclusive footage from the front line: “road of death” for the occupiers in the Lyman direction

(LYMAN DIRECTION, DONETSK OBLAST) – Ukrainian border guards have released exclusive footage showing a road littered with unexploded FPV drones, destroyed enemy positions and fragments of Russian infantry bodies in the Lyman direction, revealing the grim reality of combat operations on what has become a “road of death” for occupying forces.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine published the video on 21st September 2026, showing the crew of the Phoenix border unit, led by a commander known by the call sign Mowgli, advancing through territory that until recently served as enemy positions and a logistical route.

The footage captures the aftermath of sustained Ukrainian drone operations, with wrecked vehicles, abandoned equipment and the decomposing remains of Russian soldiers scattered along the roadside. According to the border guards, the enemy does not retrieve its dead, leaving them to be consumed by stray animals.

“For their command, a liquidated soldier is not a hero, but merely a cog in the system who failed to complete the task and deserves only to be forgotten,” the State Border Guard Service stated.

The video, recorded on body cameras worn by Ukrainian personnel, captures the visceral reality of the advance. At one point, a soldier notes: “It smells of corpses. No, it’s not the Kalashnikov, it smells of corpses.” Another observes: “There’s a magazine lying around.”

The footage documents the crossing of a river and movement through contested terrain, with soldiers referencing incoming Grad rocket fire and the presence of what appears to be a downed Russian drone. “It looks like a painted Mavic that landed,” one soldier remarks.

The Phoenix unit has been conducting systematic operations in the Lyman direction, targeting enemy logistics, infantry positions and artillery assets. Earlier this month, the unit destroyed a BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher system in the same sector.

The video forms part of the “GoPRO Phoenix” project, which provides first-person perspectives from Ukrainian drone pilots and infantry operating on the front line.
