(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Ukrainian drones struck the Adler oil depot, an oil storage facility and an S-400 air defence system in Sochi, while the Ryazan oil refinery was knocked offline again, according to reports compiled by military commentator Jake Broe.
The Ryazan refinery, Russia’s third largest, lost its blending unit after two of its four crude distillation units were hit. Ukraine previously struck the facility on 29th July, 15th May and in December of last year.
Two other Russian oil refineries have ceased operations after Ukrainian strikes. The Lukoil Norsi refinery in Kstovo was hit on 26th August. The Novatek Ust-Luga complex in the Leningrad region was struck on 1st September.
Drones also hit a fuel depot in Sochi and an explosives plant located 1,300 kilometres from Ukraine. The strikes were documented by Fire Point, a for profit drone manufacturer that publishes results of its operations.
Ukraine simultaneously struck the Adler oil depot, an oil storage facility and an S-400 air defence system. At least six storage tanks were destroyed by the drone strike. Video showed the S-400 air defence system being destroyed after it failed to shoot down the Ukrainian drones.
Three military helicopters were reported destroyed or damaged at an airfield in the area. Analysts identified the aircraft as a Ka-52, an Mi-28 and an Mi-8.
Residents of Sochi have faced petrol shortages throughout the summer. Social media footage showed Russian women crying in their cars while searching for fuel. One woman described the situation at petrol stations as “a total circus.”
“Every trip to the gas station is a total circus. Honestly, there are moments when I get genuinely scared because people, not all of them, but some of them forget they’re human beings and they start acting like animals,” she said.
She added that one man in a BMW ran over a petrol station employee after waiting in line for hours.
The Russian icebreaker Admiral Makarov caught fire in dry dock in St. Petersburg. No explanation was given. The ship was damaged in Novorossiysk and towed to St. Petersburg for repairs.
A sanctioned Russian cargo ship, the Lady Maria, was struck multiple times in the Mediterranean while sailing from Algeria to the Eastern Mediterranean. Footage showed up to 12 hits on the ship. Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence lists the vessel as transporting weapons and military equipment.
Ukraine has damaged or destroyed more than 300 ships in the Black Sea over the past two to three months, crippling Russia’s shadow fleet.
Kazakhstan has introduced a six month ban on wheat imports from Russia due to the closure of the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. The measure aims to protect Kazakh farmers from an oversupply of Russian wheat.
Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture is considering issuing a moratorium on farmer bankruptcies due to the inability to export from the Black Sea. The ministry is also considering buying one to three million tonnes of grain from southern farmers.
Ukraine’s Tuman special purpose units of the First Azov Corps released a compilation video targeting Russian logistics in Donetsk. All strikes occurred more than 50 kilometres from the front lines.
Video from Magyar’s Birds showed the drone wall continuing to hold. Russian infiltration groups of one to three men attempt to advance and hide in basements, but 90 percent are eliminated within 20 to 30 minutes by Ukrainian drone operators using thermal cameras.
According to the Blackbird Group tracker, Russia gained 133 square kilometres in August, compared to 430 square kilometres in August of last year, a 70 percent drop.
Russian attacks killed seven people and injured 51 across Ukraine over the past day. An Epicentr store in Mykolaiv was destroyed.
A drone slammed into a highway in Kyiv, narrowly missing buildings. Russia is continuously launching drones every hour, keeping air sirens and air defence systems active in the capital.
Ukraine’s F-16 pilots are falling back on the jets’ built in Vulcan cannons due to a shortage of Western air to air missiles. Russia has increased its use of jet drones by four times over the past two months.
Ukraine is testing drone interceptors launched from drone boats in the Black Sea to counter drones flying towards Odesa.
Russia and Ukraine agreed to halt aerial strikes on each other’s capitals while US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited the two cities. Ukraine wanted a complete ceasefire covering all mainland territory, but Russia refused.
Russia did not adhere to the agreement, launching drones and missiles at Kyiv while Witkoff and Kushner were in Moscow. Journalist Maria Avdeva reported that Putin told the US envoys Russia did not attack Kyiv while she was sitting in a shelter in the capital.
Russia deliberately targeted Kyiv and Boryspil airports ahead of the US envoys’ visits, preventing them from flying to Kyiv. Ukraine logged impacts at 11 sites while the American delegation was still in Moscow.
Witkoff and Kushner eventually took the train to Kyiv. Witkoff has visited the Kremlin 11 times in two years. TASS reported that negotiations between Putin, Witkoff and Kushner were not limited to Ukraine, but included possible major Russian-American projects.
Kremlin officials downplayed hopes for a breakthrough. Chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov said Putin needs perpetual war to survive in power in Russia.
US President Donald Trump said Europe should repay the United States for Ukraine aid. The actual allocated amount is approximately 183 billion dollars, largely spent on older equipment reaching the end of its service life.
Germany announced a 290 million euro aid package to repair Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Germany also began production of 5,000 long range drones.
Spain is readying a fresh batch of interceptors for Kyiv and has ordered four new Patriot systems in a 1.7 billion euro deal with Raytheon.
