(WARSAW) – Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has stated that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is repeating the strategic errors of the Third Reich by launching missile strikes against Ukrainian cities, arguing that such tactics ultimately unite the defending population rather than break their will.
Speaking on Polsat News, Sikorski drew a direct parallel between the current campaign and the Nazi V2 rocket offensive against London, which began in November 1944. He noted that although the attacks killed approximately 10,000 people, they failed to prevent the collapse of the National Socialist regime.
“I believe that Putin is making the same mistake that the Third Reich made when bombing London,” Sikorski said.
The minister argued that the daily toll of urban strikes, which he noted typically results in the deaths of between two and twelve people, has no tangible impact on the operational capacity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to defend the Donbas region.
Sikorski suggested that while the Kremlin may possess a “deeper plan” aimed at undermining the legitimacy of the government in Kyiv, history demonstrates that such strategies are counterproductive.
“The Russians may believe that this will intimidate the population and limit its influence on political power,” Sikorski stated. “The Germans counted on this when bombing either Coventry or London. The Allies also counted on this to some extent when bombing Hamburg, Berlin, or Dresden. And in both cases, it proved counterproductive. When people are attacked, they rally around the authorities.”
