(CRIMEA CORRIDOR, SOUTHERN UKRAINE) – Ukrainian forces have established fire control over the land corridor to occupied Crimea, forcing Russian lorry drivers to alter routes amid constant drone threats. Video footage shows burning trucks, blocked motorways and drivers uncertain whether they will reach their destinations.
The footage, released by the Ukrainian news outlet Podrobnosti, captures the increasingly dangerous conditions on roads leading to the occupied peninsula. Drivers describe drones appearing suddenly and striking vehicles, with multiple lorries seen engulfed in flames along the route.
In one segment, a driver recounts how a quadcopter approached his vehicle directly. “It went straight in, and I braked. It seems nothing is leaking or dripping. Air, coolant, everything is fine. I managed to brake in time,” he said.
Another driver describes the scene ahead: “There is a traffic jam forming here. There is the lorry. The lorry is burning. One, two, three. They are blazing. It is so hot here.”
The strikes have targeted bridges and transport infrastructure, forcing traffic to slow and creating bottlenecks that make vehicles more vulnerable to drone attacks. Drivers report being advised by radio that certain sections of motorway are impassable.
“From Titovka to the 26 kilometre mark, from the 26 kilometre mark to Belgorod, you cannot travel,” one driver said. “I have already been waiting half an hour for the road to be usable.”
The disruption has extended beyond the immediate corridor. Reports indicate that the last construction hypermarket in Donetsk has ceased operations, following strikes that have reportedly destroyed all major construction retail outlets in the region, including in Donetsk, Makiivka and Yenakiieve.
The closures have resulted in significant financial losses for business owners and left large numbers of people without employment. Residents are now facing shortages of construction materials and garden supplies.
