(ST PETERSBURG, RUSSIA) – A major in a Russian helicopter regiment has been killed in an explosion in St Petersburg, with a 24 year old Russian woman suspected of carrying out the blast.
Major Sergei Sechkov of the 332nd Helicopter Regiment died in the explosion, while his wife Anna was injured and taken to hospital.
The couple have children.
Russian media reported that before the attack, Sechkov had complained to his command that he had been included on “liquidation lists” and had regularly checked his car for explosives.
Sechkov’s father confirmed his son’s death.
The 332nd Helicopter Regiment has been accused by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence of carrying out raids on civilians in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
Russian media reported that the suspect planted the explosive device before flying to Turkey and then travelling on to Moldova.
