(ROSTOV-ON-DON, ROSTOV OBLAST) – Ukrainian forces struck multiple logistics facilities across the Rostov region overnight Friday into Saturday, setting ablaze warehouses belonging to major Russian retailers DNS and Ozon, according to local reports and social media footage.
The attacks targeted strategic objects in Rostov-on-Don and the surrounding Aksai, Bogayevsky and Neklinovsky districts. At 4:00 am local time, Rostov governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed that Russian air defence was attempting to repel an aerial assault on the region.
Residents reported series of explosions throughout the night. Local authorities confirmed damage to high rise buildings in the Proletarsky district of Rostov-on-Don, with emergency services deployed to the scene.
A warehouse belonging to DNS Retail, a major Russian chain specialising in digital, computer and household appliances, was struck during the assault. Numerous photographs and videos posted online confirmed the attack was successful, showing the building fully engulfed in flames. The company reported that employees were evacuated from the site.
In the town of Aksai, local residents also reported a fire at another logistics hub belonging to Ozon, one of Russia’s largest online marketplaces. Footage shared by witnesses showed thick black smoke rising over the area, with one resident comparing the explosions to “a New Year garland hung on a house.”
One local man who arrived at work to find the DNS warehouse ablaze said: “This is our warehouse. That is what we have now.”
Reports also indicate that the Aksai Midel shipyard in Aksai was struck, with a vessel reportedly burning at the facility.
The strikes follow a summer campaign by Russian occupation forces targeting supermarkets, shopping centres and civilian warehouses across Ukraine. Until now, Ukrainian defence forces had not attacked DNS facilities. However, the escalation against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure prompted a response that now includes logistics centres belonging to Wildberries, Ozon, Magnit and DNS.
Local residents noted that further strikes may continue. “Russians are already calculating which warehouse and which company will be hit next from Saturday to Sunday,” one observer remarked.
Footage of the strikes was released by local residents and circulated on Ukrainian media channels.
