(CRIMEA, UKRAINE) – Ukrainian naval forces have destroyed a Russian Bastion-P coastal missile launcher in occupied Crimea, marking a significant blow to the Kremlin’s ability to strike Ukrainian cities with advanced cruise missiles.
The strike targeted the launch positions and deployment site of the Russian Bastion coastal missile system. At least one launcher was confirmed destroyed in the attack, according to footage released by the Ukrainian Navy.
The Bastion-P is a rare and expensive long range anti-ship missile complex technically designed to engage surface vessels. However, the Oniks supersonic and Zircon hypersonic missiles it fires have been regularly used by Russian forces to attack southern and other regions of Ukraine.
The footage, released by the Ukrainian Navy, shows an initial explosion on the complex followed by drone strikes. One drone appeared to miss its target and land in nearby woodland, while a second struck a Bastion launcher directly on top, destroying it.
The video also revealed a radar or communication antenna positioned near the battery. Analysts noted that positioning valuable missile systems next to such obvious military infrastructure increases their vulnerability to detection and strike.
The operation is part of a broader Ukrainian campaign targeting Russian ballistic missile capabilities. Ukrainian forces announced approximately one week ago that they would intensify strikes on Russian missile sites. Days prior, they hit a train carrying North Korean missiles.
The exact number of Bastion-P systems in Russian service remains unclear. The location of this strike was somewhere in Crimea, presumably on the western coast, where missile launchers would be positioned to best target Ukrainian territory.
