Moscow Oil Refinery Ablaze After Mass Drone Strike

(MOSCOW) – A major fire broke out at the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district following a mass drone attack overnight, according to open source intelligence analysis of eyewitness footage.

The refinery, operated by Gazpromneft MNPZ, is one of Russia’s largest and has a refining capacity of 11 million tonnes of crude oil per year. It supplies approximately 40 percent of Moscow’s fuel market and meets 70 percent of the Moscow region’s demand for petrol and jet fuel.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that a facility at the refinery had been damaged. He claimed no casualties had been reported and that emergency services were working at the site. Sobyanin also asserted that Russian air defences had destroyed over 1,600 drones since Saturday, including 450 approaching the capital.

Footage circulating on monitoring channels showed at least three separate fires burning on the refinery’s premises. Analysts from the World.militares project identified the AVT 6 unit, a key primary refining installation, as having been struck.

In a parallel operation, Ukrainian company Fire Point stated that its FP 1 strike drones had destroyed a warehouse complex in the Moscow region. The facilities reportedly belonged to Sovremennye Skladskie Tekhnologii (Modern Warehouse Technologies).

The attack marks the latest in a series of strikes targeting Russian energy infrastructure. The Moscow refinery was previously hit in June, when Ukrainian Security Service drones damaged its primary refining unit, forcing the plant to halt operations.

No official damage assessment has been released, and it remains unclear whether production has been disrupted. Russian authorities have not commented on the specific cause of the fire beyond acknowledging the drone attack.
