(ORSK, ORENBURG REGION) – An attack has been recorded at the Orsk oil refinery in Russia, located more than 1,500 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, with the facility continuing to burn following a reported strike on a key processing unit.
Monitoring resources reported the incident on Tuesday. The Exilenova+ Telegram channel stated: “Orsk was attacked – Orsknefteorgsintez.”
Open source intelligence analysis indicates the likely targeting of the ELOU-AVT unit at the Orsknefteorgsintez refinery. Preliminary reports suggest the hydrocracking complex, which has a capacity of 1.6 million tonnes per year, was hit. This unit is one of the facility’s key modernisation assets, intended for processing vacuum gas oil and producing light petroleum products.
“The oil refinery in Orsk continues to burn,” the Telegram channel reported.
The governor of the Orenburg region, Yevgeny Solntsev, announced that an airspace restriction regime, known as the “Carpet” plan, had been introduced. ASTRA’s OSINT analysis group also confirmed that PJSC Orsknaftoorgsintez was under attack.
Earlier, the head of Orsk, Artem Vorobyov, confirmed the attack on the region. Temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures were also imposed at Orsk Airport.
PJSC Orsknaftoorgsintez is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, located in Orsk, Orenburg region. It forms part of the ForteInvest holding structure, which belongs to Mikhail Gutseriyev’s Safmar group. The facility has a processing capacity of approximately 6 million tonnes of oil per year and produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, aviation kerosene and other petroleum products. The Orsk refinery plays an important role in supplying petroleum products to the Urals and Volga regions, with some of its output exported.
