(SOCHI, KRASNODAR KRAI) – Ukrainian forces conducted a coordinated drone strike on the Russian resort city of Sochi on the night of 3rd August 2026, targeting military and logistical infrastructure. The attack involved both aerial and maritime drones, resulting in significant damage to an S-400 air defence system, a supply vessel, and a major aviation fuel depot.
The operation saw Ukrainian unmanned surface vessels (USVs) penetrate the port of Sochi. Footage circulated online shows the moment one drone struck a ship designated for supporting offshore oil and gas operations. A second drone was reportedly destroyed by defensive fire before it could hit its target. The supply vessel was struck amidships, leaving a large breach in its hull.
During the same assault, aerial drones successfully targeted a Russian S-400 Triumf air defence complex. Local footage captured the sound of intensified air defence fire followed by a large explosion. An S-400 battery is estimated to have an export value of approximately $1 billion (€0.92 billion or £0.79 billion).
Additionally, drones struck a fuel depot at Sochi International Airport. The strike on the aviation fuel storage facility caused large fires and columns of smoke. The attack led to the grounding of flights at the airport as a security precaution.
The strikes triggered air alerts across the region, including in the nearby city of Krasnodar, where loudspeakers urged beachgoers to seek shelter. The operation in Sochi is part of a broader pattern of Ukrainian long-range drone attacks targeting Russian military and energy infrastructure.
