Ukraine Strikes Moscow Oil Refinery as Russia Votes in Duma Elections

(MOSCOW, RUSSIA) – Ukraine launched over 1,000 drones and missiles at Moscow overnight, striking a major oil refinery and a logistics warehouse as Russians voted in State Duma elections.

The Moscow refinery, 20km from the Kremlin, was hit in a saturation attack. Open source intelligence indicates the AVT6 and KUPN units were damaged, which would halt primary processing. Footage shows at least three distillation towers burning. No air raid sirens sounded.

President Zelensky confirmed the strike, saying it had “a very significant impact.” A Flamingo cruise missile reached within 5km of the refinery before being shot down. This is the seventh refinery attack this month and the 91st this year. Russia has lost 10 percent of refining capacity in half of September.

A class A logistics warehouse was also destroyed. Over 400 flights were delayed at Moscow’s four airports. In St Petersburg, only 55 of 175 petrol stations had fuel. Black market fuel sells for 600 to 750 rubles per litre (approximately $6.50 to $8.10 or £5.10 to £6.40).

Russia is now using repurposed S400 training missiles against Ukraine. Miar’s Birds reached 300 destroyed enemy air defence systems this year. Satellite imagery confirmed a Rostov airfield strike destroyed two Mi8 helicopters, an An26 and an An12.

Ukraine’s Third Army Corps announced Operation Vivaldi in Donetsk, reclaiming 40 square kilometres and re-entering Luhansk oblast. Russian blogger Rybar acknowledged the losses. Ukraine has also deployed a new interceptor drone against jet powered Shaheds.

The United States has warned allies of arms delivery delays of up to five years. The Pentagon is weighing pulling 25,000 troops from Europe. NATO is preparing for a possible Russian attack, with Belarus holding drills near the Suwalki Gap.
