(TAGANROG, ROSTOV OBLAST) – Ukrainian drone strikes have targeted two significant Russian industrial sites, hitting a major drone manufacturing facility in Taganrog and a chemical plant in Tolyatti, according to footage released by the Suchomimus YouTube channel.
The Atlant Aero plant in Taganrog, which produces both the Molniya low-cost decoy drone and the high-end Orion spotter drone, was struck, with footage showing a substantial fire burning at the site. The facility has been targeted previously. The Orion drone serves as Russia’s equivalent to the Turkish Bayraktar and has been used to launch Banderol S-8000 cruise missiles at Ukraine, making the destruction of its production line a priority for Ukrainian forces.
NASA Firms data indicates two heat spots at the location, suggesting two sections of the plant were hit and production may be offline. While it remains unclear whether damage from the previous strike was minor or whether the latest attack struck during repairs, the strike appears significant. The facility, built near the border early in the war in 2023, demonstrates what analysts describe as a lack of foresight regarding Ukraine’s developing drone capabilities.
In a separate strike, the KuibyshevAzot chemical plant in Tolyatti was hit at least twice, with footage showing a large cloud of smoke or fire rising from the facility and a second impact. Tracer fire can be seen attempting and failing to intercept the drone before impact. The extent of the smoke and fumes suggests the facility is burning severely.
Google Maps imagery shows two facilities at the location: KuibyshevAzot, which produces nitrogen fertilisers, caprolactam, polyamides and other chemicals, and Tolyatti Azot, which produces ammonia. Reports indicate the KuibyshevAzot facility was struck, having been targeted by drones previously in March this year. The strike represents a long-range operation.
Footage of the strikes was released by the Suchomimus YouTube channel. The Atlant Aero plant is located in Taganrog, Rostov Oblast, while the KuibyshevAzot chemical plant is located in Tolyatti, Samara Oblast.
