(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Ukrainian defence technology companies are rapidly scaling up production of medium range strike systems, as these weapons become a vital part of the country’s military strategy against Russian forces. A senior industry figure described the shift from experimental use to systematic deployment as a critical development in the war.
Viktoriia Kulchytska, commercial director of the Ukrainian British defence technology company Trypillian, said the sector had reached a point where effective and practical use of these systems is now the norm. Speaking on Ukrainian Radio, she said the move from single test cases to repeated, successful operations marks a turning point.
“Medium range strike systems have become a very critical link,” Kulchytska said. “The industry has been able to achieve expedient, effective use. We hear from all sources that results are not isolated. This is a systematic battle against enemy logistics.” She added that production capabilities are being increased to cover different depths of the front line, and that further positive news could be expected soon.
Kulchytska pointed to the speed of technological development by Ukrainian firms as a defining feature of the sector. “This is truly a phenomenon of the Ukrainian people, who have been able to scale technologies so quickly to rates previously unseen in the world,” she noted.
She explained that while the growing number of drones is important, sheer volume alone does not guarantee success. What matters equally is how many of these systems actually reach their target, how fast units receive them, and how quickly they can adapt to new frequencies, antennas and technologies.
The real Ukrainian advantage today, she said, rests on a very short feedback cycle. Military units use a system and then pass information directly back to the manufacturer about what works, what does not, and what needs updating in future batches. Each producer in the industry works very closely with the military end user, which helps to increase the pace of development.
At the same time, the organisation of how these systems are used has improved, including operator training and target reconnaissance. This means the entire chain, from production to combat use, has become far more effective.
Kulchytska said this represents a unique body of Ukrainian expertise. No country in Europe or on other continents has experienced anything like this from its own practical knowledge. Development cycles within NATO structures tend to be very long, carried out according to established standards and methodologies. While Ukraine should also follow these standards, she argued, the process must be adapted for a much faster development cycle.
“The front today needs mass, but it absolutely must be accompanied by technological advantage and a technological component,” she said.
The remarks follow a statement by the commander of Ukraine’s National Guard, Oleksandr Pivnenko, who said medium range strike systems are systematically depriving Russian forces of the ability to wage war in the way they are used to, as the pace of strikes against enemy logistics and equipment has grown considerably.
