(MOSCOW) – A prominent Russian state television pundit has claimed that Russian civilians are applauding the Kremlin’s campaign of strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure, demanding more frequent and more painful attacks.
The remarks were broadcast on the programme “60 Minutes,” hosted by Olga Skabeeva, and featured so called geopolitical analyst Sergey Strokan and military expert Igor Korotchenko. The broadcast showed Korotchenko citing conversations with military personnel and civilians alike.
“Everyone says: ‘Igor Yuryevich, please tell the programme 60 Minutes. We support all the strikes that the Russian armed forces are delivering against Ukraine’s infrastructure. The only wish is more, more often and as painful as possible for Zelensky’s regime,’” Korotchenko stated.
He added that the Russian people greet such strikes with applause and are waiting for harsher measures.
Korotchenko framed the targeting of civilian infrastructure as a direct tactical necessity, linking the destruction of power grids and logistics to front line progress. “The more painfully we destroy the enemy’s infrastructure, the easier it is for our fighters to advance, defend and conduct operations in the special military operation zone,” he said.
The broadcast also touched on nuclear rhetoric. Korotchenko dismissed the need to deny reports that Russia might use nuclear weapons due to a poor situation at the front. “We do not need to make excuses or refute anything. We will use nuclear weapons when it is deemed necessary. In particular, to destroy transport logistics in Western Ukraine,” he said.
Strokan earlier remarked on what he described as a critical point in the Ukraine conflict, suggesting that time is working against Ukraine. He referenced unsubstantiated claims that previous optimism in the West regarding Patriot missile production and diplomatic engagements had faded.
The programme concluded with Korotchenko reiterating support for the decisions of the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, stating, “The Russian people are waiting for new strikes on Nazi Ukraine.”
