Vladimir Solovyov ponders what Russia should do to Laura Loomer

(MOSCOW) – Russian state television host Vladimir Solovyov has called for the criminalisation of unauthorised filming and dissemination of footage from the war in Ukraine, while also making incendiary remarks about American political activist Laura Loomer during a recent broadcast.

During the “Sunday Evening With Vladimir Solovyov” programme on Russian state TV, the host marked Russia’s Paratroopers’ Day by praising airborne forces for what he termed “heroic” operations from Hostomel to the present day. He claimed that after five years of conflict, Russians should focus on security rather than celebrations.

Solovyov expressed frustration over what he described as insufficient “objective control” of the battlefield, complaining that civilians with mobile phones were recording events and sending footage to Ukraine. He demanded the introduction of criminal liability for such activities, stating: “War is going on. It’s time for everyone to understand this.”

The presenter claimed that Ukrainian strikes deep into Russian territory represented “Trump’s method of coercing peace” and mocked the logic that Iran should have the capability to strike the continental United States. He questioned American complaints about potential Russian assistance to Iran, calling the position “idiotic” in comments that appeared to reference US-Iran tensions.

In the most contentious segment, Solovyov attacked Laura Loomer, a right-wing American activist who has expressed support for President Donald Trump. He referred to her as “some fool” and claimed she had looked into the eyes of a “Nazi” named “Beletsky” – apparently referencing Ukrainian official Andriy Biletsky. The host also attacked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, using derogatory language.

Solovyov singled out Loomer’s remark questioning why Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was still alive, noting that in the United States such calls regarding a president’s fate would lead to immediate arrest. He suggested that Loomer should face similar consequences, although he later appeared to wish for her natural death instead, citing the case of US Senator Lindsey Graham, whom he claimed had “died” – a reference apparently to Graham’s previous support for Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory.
