(MOSCOW, RUSSIA) – Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has compared the coalition of nations supporting Ukraine to the biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, claiming their inhabitants had become “dehumanised” and driven by “animal passion.”
Speaking on Radio Sputnik with host Konstantin Pridybailo, Zakharova discussed the recent meeting of the coalition of the willing in Paris. She described the name itself as “wild” and questioned what exactly the coalition desires, noting that the title does not specify peace, negotiations, harmony, stability or security.
Zakharova said the term had been troubling her until she realised what it reminded her of. “It reminds me of Sodom and Gomorrah,” she stated, adding that she hoped listeners would read the biblical account for themselves.
According to Zakharova, the inhabitants of those cities had reached a state of dehumanisation, becoming what she called “brutalised in the literal sense of the word.” She clarified that this did not mean they walked around with dog heads or barking, but rather that while outwardly maintaining human appearance, they had become completely brutalised within.
The spokesperson drew a parallel between the biblical narrative and the current coalition supporting Ukraine. “I see exactly that image when desire is placed in first position,” she said.
Zakharova described what she termed a “crazed, aggressively minded community” that perceives anyone who comes in peace, with open arms, as a potential victim who is obliged to become one. She argued that this passion and desire has become the motivation for their internal state.
She further claimed that negotiations are being used as a screen, a pretext and another occasion for deception. “This is not about negotiations. This is about negotiations that are used as a shield,” Zakharova said.
