(MOSCOW, RUSSIA) – Vladimir Solovyov, a prominent Russian state television host, has launched a scathing on-air attack on the Kremlin’s domestic and military failures, following reported Ukrainian strikes on Sochi and Dagestan.
Speaking on his radio programme “Full Contact,” Solovyov described the strikes on Sochi’s waterfront as “acts of absolute terror” and claimed they were carried out by uncrewed surface vessels, which he alleged were backed by Britain. He also confirmed a strike on Dagestan.
“The meaning is simple. They hit where they can reach. The task before the elections is to sow panic. The task before the elections is death,” Solovyov said, complaining that Russia still has not formally declared war.
Solovyov reserved particular fury for Russian football clubs and their owners, arguing that money spent on foreign players and their salaries should instead be directed towards air defence missile production.
“Salaries for foreign players from unfriendly countries, their bonuses, all of this tied up in modern Russian sport, means we could have produced surface-to-air guided missiles in such quantities that no threats to our country would be frightening,” he said.
He questioned whether club owners understood that a war was ongoing, warning that ordinary Russians should not be “standing in queues” because clubs prioritise foreign transfers over passive and active defence of their facilities.
“If you say [your political views], they’ll give you 15 years. A coward who cannot voice his political views. And he is supported by one of the oldest parties in the country, which behaves like it has since Stalin,” Solovyov said.
