(WARSAW, POLAND) – Ukrainian helicopter aviation has been equipped with a new domestically produced automated module that uses artificial intelligence to detect and destroy Russian drones, marking a significant development in counter drone warfare.
The 7.62 mm Predator automated module replaces the traditional side mounted machine gun on Ukrainian helicopters. The system combines human control with digital algorithms to detect, track and engage low flying unmanned aerial vehicles.
The integrated artificial intelligence system compensates for turbulence and reduces the effects of human error during flight. The module has transformed standard manoeuvrable helicopters into aerial interceptors capable of covering large areas of sky against low flying kamikaze drones and enemy reconnaissance drones.
Overnight on Friday 4th September, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with one guided air launched missile and 121 drones of various types. Ukraine’s air defence forces recorded Russian strikes at 15 locations across the country.
Russian forces carried out another large scale attack on civilian infrastructure in Odesa. Residential buildings and vehicles were damaged in one district. One person was killed and three others were wounded. Russian drones also struck private homes, wounding a civilian and a child.
In April, two police officers were killed overnight in a follow up Russian strike on a residential area in Odesa. The officers were responding to an emergency call when a second strike occurred.
Poland is introducing new restrictions on air traffic along its eastern border. From 10th September through 9th December, a restricted airspace zone will be in effect across eastern Poland. The restrictions will apply up to an altitude of approximately 3 km and will not affect passenger aircraft operating at higher altitudes.
The new restricted zone will be wider than the previous one and will extend along Poland’s airspace borders with Ukraine and Belarus. During the day, flights within the zone will be prohibited with exceptions for several categories, including military aircraft and civilian drones operating without entering the air defence identification zone of Belarus or Ukraine.
Poland’s military command said the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency introduced the restriction to ensure the security of Polish airspace in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The measures are intended to give all elements of Poland’s air defence system sufficient freedom of action and ability to respond effectively to potential threats.
Ukrainian forces carried out strikes on Russian territory. A fire broke out at an oil depot in Sochi with thick black smoke visible above the city. According to local media, the facility belongs to the state controlled oil company Rosneft.
Ukrainian drones also targeted Russian air defence systems, including an S-400 surface to air missile system. Drones also attacked the Sterlitamak petrochemical plant in Bashkortostan.
On the front line, Russian forces have reportedly advanced north of Kostiantynivka. Analysts used satellite imagery to geolocate Russian positions and confirmed Russian control over the settlement of Agefka north of the city.
In the Pokrovsk sector, footage has emerged showing numerous bodies of Russian soldiers at positions southeast of Topapilia. According to analysts, the footage indicates that Ukrainian forces carried out a successful counteroffensive operation in the area.
A Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter pilot carried out an interception, destroying a Russian cruise missile at point blank range while flying at extremely low altitude. Footage released from the cockpit shows the Ukrainian pilot catching up with the enemy target at high speed, closing to missile firing range and destroying the Russian missile just above the ground.
A Ukrainian assault soldier found himself in a life threatening situation when he unexpectedly came face to face with a Russian soldier hiding deep inside a forest. Footage released from a body camera captured the sudden close quarter combat. The Ukrainian soldier avoided injury thanks to an instant manoeuvre. The incident unfolded during an assault operation as the unit was conducting a systematic search and neutralisation of enemy firing positions.
A Ukrainian MiG-29 delivered a strike with high precision aerial bombs against a detected base housing Russian UAV operators. The air to ground munition struck the centre of the camouflage facility where the enemy had concentrated equipment, drones and reconnaissance crews. Footage released from a reconnaissance UAV confirms the complete destruction of the structure.
A reconnaissance drone operated by the Ukrainian Defence Forces captured the consequences of another air strike by Russian armed forces on a residential neighbourhood of high rise buildings in the city of Toretsk. The drone’s camera documented direct hits by heavy guided bombs on a densely populated civilian area where there are no military facilities.
