(RYAZAN, RUSSIA) – A significant drone attack targeted the Ryazan oil refinery in Russia on Sunday 6th September 2026, forcing Russian forces to deploy a Ka-52 attack helicopter in response. No casualties have been reported.
Russian media outlets confirmed the attack, with video footage circulating online showing the incident. The deployment of the Ka-52 helicopter indicates the seriousness with which Russian forces viewed the threat to this strategic facility.
The Ryazan Oil Refinery is one of the largest oil processing enterprises in Russia, with a designed capacity of approximately 17 million tonnes of oil per year, representing about 4.9 percent of the total oil refining volume in the Russian Federation.
The facility, which is part of the Rosneft structure, has been subjected to repeated strikes and drone attacks by the Defence Forces of Ukraine, including in May, July, and September 2026. Previous attacks caused significant damage to processing units, prolonged shutdowns of primary and secondary oil refining operations, and fires on the plant’s premises.
The attack comes amid reports that operations at LLC LUKOIL-Nizhegorodniinefteproekt and NOVATEK-Ust-Luga in Russia were halted following strikes by the Defence Forces.
