Kuibyshev Refinery Ablaze After Ukrainian Attack

(SAMARA OBLAST, RUSSIA) – Ukrainian drones struck the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region, igniting large fires and sending thick black smoke billowing from the facility, according to footage released by the Suchomimus YouTube channel.

The strike targeted the ELOU-6 processing unit, the key section of the refinery. Video of the attack shows Russian air defences attempting to intercept an approaching drone with anti-aircraft fire. The rounds appear too large for small arms but miss their target, and the drone impacts the refinery, which was already emitting smoke from a previous strike.

The refinery has been a regular target for Ukrainian forces. It has a refining capacity of 7 million tonnes of oil per year. Strikes in 2024 reduced that capacity to under 5 million tonnes annually. The last attack on the facility occurred in June, suggesting repairs took three months to complete. The distance from the Ukrainian border near Kharkiv is nearly 1,000 kilometres, making it a long-range operation.

No Pantsir missile launchers were visible at the site during the attack.

The footage was released by the Suchomimus YouTube channel. The incident occurred in the Samara region of Russia.
