(MOSCOW) – A Russian state television broadcast has outlined an expansive vision of Moscow’s geopolitical ambitions that extends far beyond the current front lines in Ukraine, encompassing territorial claims across Eastern Europe and the Baltic states, according to a transcript released by the monitoring group Russian Media Monitor.
The broadcast, aired on the programme “Full Contact” and hosted by Vladimir Solovyov, featured a discussion of Russia’s strategic objectives that included calls for territorial expansion to the Dnipro River, the annexation of additional Ukrainian territory, and the eventual domination of the Baltic Sea region.
The speaker outlined a near term goal of reaching Ukraine’s constitutional borders, which would include crossing the Dnipro River and taking the city of Kherson. However, the speaker acknowledged that such a move would not bring lasting peace, stating that Western powers would continue to destabilise the region through “their agents inside the country.”
Beyond Ukraine, the broadcast identified the Baltic states as a future flashpoint, citing the presence of Russian speaking populations and the strategic vulnerability of Kaliningrad. The speaker suggested that Russia would be forced to establish a land corridor to the exclave and potentially transform the Baltic Sea into “an internal sea of Russia.”
The programme also discussed the prospect of conflict with European nations, noting that the United States would be unlikely to intervene directly. The speaker described a potential war with Scandinavian and Baltic countries, operating under a French nuclear umbrella outside of NATO, as “the most convenient option” for Russia.
The broadcast called for a fundamental shift in Russian foreign policy, rejecting the concept of non interference and advocating for intervention in other countries’ affairs when Russian interests are at stake. The speaker stated that Russia should oppose any European integration process and ensure that Europe remains a collection of small, weak nation states.
The programme also discussed the need for a military and political alliance with China, describing the two countries as complementary and stating that such a union would serve as a counterbalance to Western power. The speaker also addressed domestic policy, calling for a powerful repressive apparatus, ideological indoctrination, and the cultivation of a warrior ethos among the population.
The broadcast concluded with a weather segment in which forecaster Evgeny Tishkovets stated that conditions over the European continent would be favourable for “nuclear strikes” until Saturday, after which a change in air mass patterns would make such operations inadvisable.
The video was released by Russian Media Monitor, a project that monitors and translates Russian state media broadcasts and propaganda.
