Kerch Strait Shipping Blocked for 30 Days, Ukraine Says

(KYIV, UKRAINE) – Ukrainian forces destroyed three Russian Pantsir-S1 surface to air missile systems and struck 12 vessels from Russia’s shadow fleet in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov between 1 and 8 August, the press service of the SBS unit reported. The operations form part of the ongoing “Molochka” campaign, which since 6 July has resulted in 218 watercraft being successfully engaged.

According to data released by the SBS unit, 134 of the vessels were struck in the Sea of Azov and 84 in the Black Sea. The unit stated that shipping through the Kerch Strait has been indefinitely blocked since 10 July, a period now extending to 30 consecutive days.

Footage released by the SBS unit showed the guided missile strikes against the three Pantsir-S1 systems, which were targeted and destroyed in rapid succession. The unit used the codename “Ptakhy” (Birds) for its strike platforms.

“Molochka” operations are set to continue beyond the initially communicated target figure of 221 vessels, the SBS statement confirmed. The unit noted that the shadow fleet presence in the Sea of Azov has been rendered virtually extinct, describing the remaining vessels as “red book listed,” a reference to endangered species registers.

The SBS unit advised against taking any trading positions on Russian grain and other commodities, warning of a high probability of “natural loss” in the affected supply chains.
