Russian Attempt to Mask Military Cargo Fails Spectacularly in Zaporizhzhia Convoy Strike

(ZAPORIZHZHIA REGION, UKRAINE) – Ukrainian forces have destroyed a Russian military supply convoy attempting to navigate past a previously demolished bridge on the E58 highway near Prymorsk in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Drone footage verified on 7 August 2026 shows at least three supply trucks engulfed in flames on the main logistics road, a vital artery running towards the occupied city of Melitopol and potentially onward to Crimea. The strike is the latest demonstration of Ukraine’s expanding ability to interdict Russian logistics far behind the front lines.

The attack exploited a chokepoint created when the original bridge was destroyed several months prior. Russian engineers had constructed an earth mound bypass crossing just north of the ruined span, a method previously observed in Crimea that makes the improvised road harder to collapse. Despite this adaptation, Ukrainian mid-range strike drones successfully hit the convoy as it transited the exposed detour route.

A second compilation video reveals a pattern of similar strikes across the wider Zaporizhzhia operational area. Multiple vehicles, including large cargo lorries, fuel tankers, and Kamaz military trucks, are shown being hit on the same highway network. Ukrainian forces appear to be systematically targeting logistics flowing from key hubs such as Taganrog, Mariupol, Berdiansk, and Melitopol, as well as traffic bound for Crimea.

The targeting of these vehicles relies on detailed intelligence to distinguish military cargo from genuine civilian traffic. The Russian military has recently resorted to using civilian style trucks and concealed fuel tanks inside standard lorries in an effort to evade detection, a measure described by analysts as an unusually deceptive tactic for Moscow’s forces. Whether a particular shipment was destined for the southern front or Crimea remains unconfirmed, but the intercepted vehicles will not reach either destination.

The interdiction campaign has been enabled by a marked increase in Ukraine’s inventory of mid-range strike drones. Previously constrained to a range of roughly 30 kilometres, Ukrainian units can now regularly engage targets and logistic vehicles over 100 kilometres away. Such a range allows systematic coverage of almost all road routes leading to and from the occupied south’s key logistics hubs. Disrupting the flow of ammunition, food, water, communications equipment, batteries, and replacement parts is considered essential to degrading the combat capability of the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s occupation forces.

The geolocated site of the primary convoy strike is on the E58 highway, with the burning trucks positioned adjacent to the destroyed bridge structure and the new bypass road immediately to the north. The footage was released by the Suchomimus open source intelligence channel, which geolocated the attack and mapped it against a broader pattern of recent Ukrainian drone strikes in the region.
