(MOSCOW, RUSSIA) – A Russian military expert has called for strikes against the United Kingdom, including demonstration nuclear explosions, during a broadcast on Russian state television.
Speaking on the programme “60 Minutes” hosted by Olga Skabeeva and Evgeny Popov, military expert Mikhail Khodaryonok said Russia should use all available means to strike British military industrial facilities.
Khodaryonok said that if he were in command, he would carry out such a strike “without fail using all available means.”
He added that alongside conventional strikes, he would use demonstration nuclear explosions, either high altitude detonations over the North Sea or directly over the territory of the United Kingdom.
The comments came during a discussion about the visit of Elbridge Colby, the United States Deputy Secretary of Defence, to Brussels for consultations with NATO allies.
The panel discussed a potential reassessment of the United States military presence in Europe, with scenarios to be presented to the Pentagon by early November.
State Duma deputy Adalby Shkhagoshev said Russia would use its weapons beyond its borders if national interests were threatened, citing Syria in 2015 and Georgia in 2008 as precedents.
He said Russia was observing the United Kingdom and had its own plans, adding that Russia would use weapons that would “hit England very painfully.”
Khodaryonok said the Russian leadership should be aware of the consequences of such strikes, including the possible activation of Article 5 and escalation to a third world war.
He nevertheless stated that “nothing can be excluded” regarding strikes on the United Kingdom.
