Ukraine Deploys New Interceptor Drone Against Russian Jet-Powered Shaheds

(KYIV) – Ukraine has developed and successfully deployed a new interceptor drone designed to counter Russian jet-powered Shahed attack drones, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced following a report from Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) chief Oleksandr Poklad.

“A report from SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad. There is a good result from the Security Service’s military counterintelligence in countering jet-powered Shaheds,” Zelensky said. “A new interceptor drone has been developed and has already been successfully deployed. Step by step, we are moving forward to give Ukraine greater protection.”

The president thanked all developers and manufacturers working daily to scale up production of the necessary weapons.

The SBU’s military counterintelligence unit achieved the result. The new interceptor was created specifically to target jet-powered Shahed variants that travel at higher speeds than conventional propeller-driven models.

Zelensky previously announced that two Ukrainian companies had successfully conducted combat tests of interceptor drones, during which a Russian jet-powered Shahed was destroyed. He stated that 67 companies in Ukraine are working on interceptor systems, with three to five having already demonstrated results.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently testing four promising interceptor drone models on the front line. Approximately ten additional manufacturers are conducting their own tests.

The development marks a significant step in Ukraine’s efforts to counter Russian aerial threats, particularly as Moscow increasingly deploys jet-powered drones that are faster and harder to intercept with conventional air defence systems.
